Literal Title Sequences: The scenes, characters, and locations shown in the title sequence are shown in the actual film or episode.
Connotation: symbolic, the meaning has to be decoded as it could have been misunderstood - needs cultural experience.
Denotation: The obvious meanings that we can see.
Literal title sequence: Power Rangers Ninja Storm
How does this sequence convey information?
Location
Picture 4 - Shows that it is in an area with lots of greenery and blue sky, could be countryside.
Characters
Picture 1 - Shows that the main characters are the 'Power Rangers'.
Picture 2 - Shows that the Power Rangers also have a normal life as the blue power ranger is holding a surf board.
Picture 3 - Shows a guinea pig wearing a 'GI' which is what sensei/masters/wise people wear, this shows he is good at martial arts and that he is a master of many martial arts as he has a 'Bo staff' in his hand.
Picture 5 - Shows the villain as he is wearing a mask with horns.
Plot/Theme
The villain has an evil plan to enslave human beings and it is up to the Power Rangers to stop him.
Picture 9 - Shows that there is conflict also we know there is conflict between the Power Rangers and the villain with his henchmen's as there is lots of fighting and combat in the title sequence.

Location
Picture 2 and 5 - Shows that it is in an area with lots of greenery and blue sky, could be countryside.

Picture 3 - Shows the main character which is the 'Man of Steel' known as Superman.
Picture 5 - Shows the logo of 'Man of Steel' in his costume which the 'S' represents Superman.
Plot/Theme
Superman who is known as 'Clark Kent' is committed to protect Earth, and Zod plans to obliterate the humans. It is up to Superman to stop Zod.
Picture 4 - Shows Superman saving someone from a burning building. This shows his role as a hero to save and protect people.

Symbolic and Literal title sequence: Dexter
How does this sequence convey information?
Location
Picture 8 - Shows that Dexter is in Miami, because of the house that he comes out from also the causal shirt he is wearing.
Characters
Picture 7 and 8 - The use of juxtaposition shows his personality as Picture 7 is a little sinister an unvarying lighting with a close up of his face showing his facial expression which is quite menacing. Subsequently Picture 8 the lighting is bright and a long shot of him walking with a curious smile.
Plot/Theme
Dexter leads a double life of being a blood splatter analyst as his job and then is a serial killer killing criminals.
Picture 1 and 2 - Could manifest the bloodshed from killing the criminals.
Picture 4 and 6 - Shows Dexter cutting a piece of meat, this could indicate of Dexter killing killing people using a knife, also Picture 6 shows him wrapping a floss around his finger to use. This could also indicate of Dexter killing people by strangling them using a rope or somesort.
